North up the chain on the ‘Road to Tokio’, Marines, Sea Bees and Sailors in forest green all petitioned the Papa to create a cover to provide shade where there was none .
Checking the PX inventory of the War Production Board approved styles, Papa Nui turned up the M1937 work hat and transformed it from indigo into a Frogskin camo marvel, crafted from beachside brown herringbone twill to blend perfectly into the environment of the coral strewn landscapes of these barren atolls. This rugged hat became a prized piece of kit during the war and today it still has a strong presence on the training grounds of Fort Nui.
