Description
The history of Hawaiian workwear, which can be considered the origin of the Aloha shirt,
began when Japanese immigrants crossed the ocean and started living in Hawaii.
The work they did there required durable workwear rather than the traditional Japanese clothing they had brought from Japan.
In 1922, Yasuda Kayoji, who was born in Japan, founded Union Supply Co., Ltd., and succeeded in providing high-quality workwear, expanding his business. The shirts and blouses made from the palaka check fabric produced by the company, while simple in design, were durable and easy to move in, quickly becoming popular and a representative style of palaka.
