During the fourth telecast from Apollo 10, when they were halfway to the moon, one hundred and ten thousand miles away from Earth, astronauts John Young and Thomas Stafford proudly held up a picture of Snoopy to the camera. Millions of viewers back on Earth saw Snoopy in colour beaming back to them across space. Snoopy took on an important symbolic role for the crew, as evidenced in Stafford’s remarks on the crew’s homeward journey.
