Lot 2219 M-421a JKT USMCR M-421A VMF322 “FIGHTING COCKS”
MF-322 M421A jacket with Fighting Cocks squadron patch. Usually worn by the Navy Air Corps, this one has a Marine Corps patch. The patch is said to be the second model, and features the “FIGHTING COCKS” character. The soldier who wore it has complete details. Worn by US Marine Corps Corsair fighter pilot William Wesley Darling, from Binghamton, New York, who fought in World War II and the Korean War. Many of the suppliers of this summer flight jacket were hunting wear manufacturers such as Willys & Geiger and Ducksback, and it was also well-known for its ease of wear. Perhaps for this reason, after it was retired, this flight jacket was sometimes used as hunting wear.
